"Not a Monster"

Portrait study of Frankenstein's monster. Hand-carved from cottonwood bark and finished with Howard Feed-N-Wax. A true collaboration with wood: the bark fracture accents the brow; the narrowing of the bark defines the bust; and deepened grooves in the outer bark are integrated as bolts. This carving is currently on exhibit at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis as part of Maria's year-long Lechleiter Visiting Artist residency.
